Mike Dixon: By Rail To Otley

Mike Dixon: By Rail To Otley

Details

Starting in August 1865, and for 100 years thereafter, there were two ways to travel by train from Ilkley to Leeds. Both used the Otley-Ilkely joint line as far as Burley junction where the routes diverged. In _By Rail to Otley_, Professor Mike Dixon traces the origins of the railway through Wharfedale and the Burley Arthington link, its working from 1865-1965, demolition and eventual disappeance.

Through archive photographs, old maps, satellite views, and on-the-ground exploration, Mike takes us on a nostalgic story embracing railway, social history, geography and industrial archaology, which will intrigue rail enthusiasts and the general public alike.
