Little Reliance Cinema // The Hunger

Little Reliance Cinema // The Hunger

Continuing our recent journey through some of the finest 1980s trashy sub-culture films, on Halloween night Film Fringe are showing a classic 80s vampire flick The Hunger (1983).

David Bowie, Catherine Deneuve and Susan Sarandon (and cellos and cigarette holders) star in this unashamedly erotic vampire film, which mixes styles and influences from art-house cinema to pop video montage.

The opening sequence draws us into the sleek yet deadly nightclub scene of 1980s New York, complete with a performance of Bela Lugosi's Dead by UK art/goth band Bauhaus.

Bowie is detached while Deneuve and Sarandon revel in their bloodlust. Consider now that when The Hunger opened in the UK, Bowie's mega-hit album Let’s Dance was number one in the album charts, and you can help but be curious to see this film again!

As always, please join us for a post-film chat in the bar afterwards and possibly a gothic beetroot negroni or two .
