Parting Glances

Parting Glances

Details

We are very excited to bring this gem of a film to the Little Reliance Cinema for LGBTQ+ History Month! _Parting Glances_ is a landmark of queer cinema, and one of the first American films to address the AIDS epidemic.

Starring in his first major role, Steve Buscemi plays Nick, a sardonic rock singer dying of AIDS. Nick’s best friend and former lover, Michael (Richard Ganoung) is steeling himself for the imminent departure of current partner Robert (John Bolger), who’s leaving for a two-year job overseas. Set in Manhattan over a 24-hour period, tensions rise as Michael and Robert cope with their separation anxiety and Nick’s illness, and prepare for Robert’s going-away party. _Parting Glances_ is director Bill Sherwood's only feature, completed before he himself died of AIDS in 1990.

"Sherwood brings a notable grace and droll humour to his story of two male lovers parting against the backdrop of a friend dying of the Big A. It has a tenderness, warmth, humour and, despite that looming Big A, lightness of heart that will win it many friends." - Time Out New York
