Fictions of Every Kind: Futures

Fictions of Every Kind: Futures

Fictions of Every Kind is (maybe) Leeds' longest running literary social night. Featuring guest speakers, a spoken word open mic, and our very own House Band, we aim to encourage anyone engaged in the lonely act of writing.

At our November event, we are super proud to be hosting two superb invited readers, each of whom are documenters of different kinds of apocalypse.

SUZANNAH EVANS lives in Sheffield and her pamphlet Confusion Species was a winner in the 2012 Poetry Business book and pamphlet competition, judged by Carol Ann Duffy. She has had poems published in The Rialto, The North, Magma and Poetry Review and her poem ‘Helpline’ has been ‘Poem of the Week’ on the Guardian website. She has been a Hawthornden fellow and was one of the 2015 Aldeburgh Eight. Suzannah works as a teacher of creative writing and a poetry editor. Her debut collection Near Future will be published in November 2018.

GLEN JAMES BROWN is from the North East of England. He studied English at Leeds Beckett University. He is a winner of the Kate Bates Memorial Award and he lives in Manchester. His first novel, Ironopolis, set in a decaying housing estate in once-industrial Middlesborough, combines magical realism and normal realism. Described as "bold, polyphonic and daringly structured", it is now available from Parthian Books.

As ever, there will be our brilliant House Band, and a writers' open mic at which true stories, flash fiction, short stories, and excerpts of larger works are all welcome. Please keep your contributions at 5 minutes or under (don't make us ring our bell at you!) and please, remember this is an open mic for words and stories only. Much as we love music and singing, our open mic is not the place for them.

Please note: Wharf Chambers is a members club and you must be a member, or guest of a member, to attend an event here. Joining costs £1 and takes a minimum of 48 hours to take effect. To join, see []
