Leeds Industrial Museum
Step back in time at Leeds Industrial Museum, housed inside the Grade II listed Armley Mills. The museum contains exhibits from the 18th century through to the present day and tells the history of manufacturing in Leeds, including textiles, printing, film and engineering.
Get close to spinning wheels and working looms in the Textile Galleries. Catch live demonstrations in the mill space and learn all about the industries which made Leeds world famous. Take in the panoramic views from the original mill windows and come face-to-face with the huge Potts clock which once greeted holidaymakers to the Morecambe Promenade railway station in the early twentieth century.
Meanwhile the Power House Galleries are home to a whole host of small and large engines, and the Mill Managers Cottage shows what life would have been like for those living and working in the mill during Victorian times. There’s also an impressive collection of printing presses and film equipment in the Media in the Mill Galleries. Learn all about Leeds links to the early days of filmmaking, including the incredible story of Louis Le Prince.
Leeds Industrial Museum is also home to the 1920s Palace Picture House. The 24 seat cinema is one of the smallest working cinemas in the world! Catch a classic film on special event days or a selection of family favourite screenings during the school holidays.
There’s lots of lovely outdoor space, too. The Colour Garden is managed by the museums wonderful volunteers and the perfect canal side spot to catch some sunshine with a retro ice ream from the museum shop.
This venue is a part of the Visit Leeds Culture Around Every Corner Campaign, celebrating the diverse and vibrant culture of Leeds. Find out more at https://www.visitleeds.co.uk/culture-around-every-corner/
