Leventhorpe Vineyard

Leventhorpe is Yorkshire’s longest established commercial vineyard, producing wines since the 1980s.

Wine-making in Yorkshire is not as new as one might think. The Cistercians of Kirkstall Abbey, Leeds and the Benedictines at St Maryís Abbey, York, had been making wine successfully up to the 16th century.

George Bowden and his wife Janet re-introduced commercial winegrowing to Yorkshire by establishing the five acre vineyard in 1985, and now produce award-winning Yorkshire Appellation wines: mainly whites, with limited amounts of sparkling and red wines.

Leventhorpe has its own well equipped winery and its wines are given a long fermentation to preserve nose and delicacy. The vineyard was recommended as a Food Hero by Rick Stein and Oz Clarke is a fan too.

Vineyard open most days. Visitors are welcome to have a free taste of the wines on offer prior to purchase. If travelling a distance please phone before your journey.
