LIGHT NIGHT LEEDS 2017

As darkness falls, come and see the city in a new light…

Join us in Leeds for our 13th annual Light Night festival, and experience the city centre as you’ve never before.

Light Night, the breath-taking annual arts spectacular, returns on October 5 and 6, and will see more than 60 illuminated installations light up some of Leeds’ most famous landmarks. With plenty going on outside as well as in some of the city’s most iconic buildings, there will be something for everyone to enjoy no matter what the weather.

This year's festival will once again take place over two nights; Thursday 5th and Friday 6th October.

On Thursday night, performers from Leeds West Indian Carnival will help kick-start the celebrations with a flamboyant parade which will weave its way through the city centre. The beautiful spectacle will see them take their place alongside stunning LED umbrellas from artists Cirque Bijou, lanterns and stilt walkers from Handmade Parade and spectacular drummers Spark!

Other highlights will include a mesmerising digital arts display projected across the front of Leeds Civic Hall, created by leading artists Ross Ashton and Karen Monid of The Projection Studio which will explore the history and heritage of Leeds. Their unique creation will feature dynamic images and figures from the worlds of entertainment, sports and engineering accompanied by music from local artists and bands.

This year’s Light Night Leeds will also include more events to fire the imaginations of younger visitors than ever before.

The city’s historic Kirkgate Market will be giving children and young people the chance to play in a life-sized, interactive game zone inspired by classic arcade games including Space Invaders and Tetris.

The exciting Actual Reality Arcade will challenge them to use their bodies and brains to take on 12 games and activities, which will also include tandem skiing and Marble Madness.

And Thought Bubble will be transforming the crypt underneath Leeds Town Hall into a mysterious, enchanted forest where explorers can find their way around using flashlights and cryptic messages.

A full programme will be available to buy during the event for £2 at venues across the city centre including Leeds visitor Centre.
