Ceramic Sculptures

About this event: In this two-week evening course, you will be creating sculptural forms out of clay. You will explore the different stages from plastic to leather-hard clay and learn about the different ways of making. Using methods such as; Using templates, freehand forms, fettling, slab building, and joining using slip. You will gain a sense of confidence while working with clay and be able to push the limits of what you will be able to create. You'll also get the opportunity to add colour and surface patterns to your pieces using methods like monoprinting and slip designs. At the end of the course, you will be able to pick your favourite pieces which will be fired and glazed in one of our standard house glazes. You'll be able to collect your finished work 3 weeks from the end of the course. Tutor: Eve Miller Eve graduated from Leeds Arts University in 2015 in Fine Art and since then, she has been working as an artist in Leeds. Eve creates artwork through a variety of different mediums, currently she uses clay to make ceramic sculptures. She set up Fleuro: a strand of her art practice that focuses on being involved in the local creative community including events, workshops, murals, prints and more. This course is suitable for adults who are complete beginners or for those who wish to refresh their previous knowledge. You don’t need to feel confident in clay to start this course as all aspects of the medium are covered. Do I Need to Bring Anything? All equipment and tools will be provided for you as well materials to explore all processes. We recommend wearing old clothes or bringing an apron in case you get a bit messy! If you have long hair we recommend tying it back.

Our workshops support the work we do as a charity, and because materials and equipment are ordered in advance, we regret that refunds cannot be offered less than 7 days before the workshop date. Please note that Eventbrite's booking fee is non-refundable. Bookings cannot be transferred between courses however bookings can be transferred to another person in the event that you are unable to attend on the day. In the event that The Art House needs to cancel a workshop for any reason, for example due to tutor illness or if lockdown measures are put back in place your ticket will be refunded in full.
