Family Workshop: Roots of Inspiration

25th August 2022 - 25th August 2022

Free workshop, booking required. Times: 10am - 12pm and 1:30pm - 3:30pm. Join writer Tina Shingler and artist Kedisha Coakley for this special event as part of national project The World Reimagined. Including a gallery tour, a short talk and a printmaking activity, we’ll explore and celebrate Black hair and the stories, politics and grooming rituals associated with it. You’ll explore the work of South African artist Lungiswa Gqunta, hear Tina Shingler’s ‘hairstory’, then be guided by artist Kedisha Coakley to make prints using synthetic hair. Suitable for families with children aged 8+. This is an intergenerational workshop – we encourage creativity in all ages! Children must be accompanied by an adult for the duration of the workshop. Please book places for adults and children. These workshops are supported through funding from The World Reimagined, a ground-breaking national art education project to transform how we understand the Transatlantic Trade in Enslaved Africans and its impact on all of us.
