Milele Lullaby Choir
A new intergenerational family choir for diverse women and their children from pre birth up to 17 years of age.
Join us in this weekly Thursday early evening (5.15pm -8.15pm) peer-led sing-a-long / share life stories journeys as we focus on traditional lullabies and gain opportunity to share and come together as we listen and celebrate the ancestral global history, within Leeds diverse cultural heritage of its families and their international cultural lineage at a weekly in person (term time only) music class held at the iconic Leeds City College – Creative Arts Site (Opposite Leeds Playhouse) on the new emerging Leeds Quarry Hill – Cultural Quarter.
Nattylyn Maddix-Butler (BA Hons in Childhood Studies and MA in Youth and Community Development), is an emerging Leeds based Songstress and diverse mother whilst working part time for LCC in Adult Social Care.
Nattylyn’s first choir experience was with her childhood friends singing at the local church alongside Leeds Grammy Nominated and Award winner: Corinne Bailey Rae and Jennifer Pugh singing the Gospel. https://woolpackstudios.co.uk/who-we-are/
Nattylyn uses her Rastafarian culture and West-Indian/ Nigerian heritage to explore her passion for the healing transformation of music, parent/motherhood and the artform of and role lullabies play in our modern family and children’s lives.
The transition to children growing up with new technologies lends the diversification of how we listen to each other and music varies in our often busier lives which sadly leaves the traditional lullabies from our Grandmothers and Aunts are often either no longer sung to our children therefore the art of family healing is traditionally being forgotten…
Nattylyn was selected to perform and participate as an alto member of the Jamaica Society’s Out Of Many Choir part of the 2022 year long, Out of Many Festival and performed alongside Freddie McGregor, Jazz Jamaica All Stars, Zara McFarlane to name but a few on the Road to Trojan at Leeds Playhouse
The Milele Lullaby Choir (Swahili) meaning ‘forever’ aims to explore the traditional songs and come together once a week in a supportive child and family friendly environment at a central location so Sisters can attend from across the city in a cultural hub and hidden gem at the NEW Leeds City College Creative Arts Campus togetherness with positive lasting effects!
