Yorke Dance Project presents Modern Milestones
Described by Dance Europe as “seriously in danger of becoming a national treasure”, Yorke Dance Project presents an unforgettable evening of modern dance, featuring works by legendary choreographers and two world premieres.
The programme includes Martha Graham’s Deep Song in celebration of her company’s 100th year; Robert Cohan’s Lacrymosa in honour of his 100th birthday, featuring guest artist Jonathan Goddard dancing the role that was created by Cohan for him; and Bella Lewitzky’s thrillingly athletic work Kinaesonata, being performed in the UK for the first time.
Alongside these classic works are two world premieres: CAST |x| created by Yorke Dance Project’s associate choreographer Liam Francis, who launches his new company Liam Francis Dance Company this year; and Troubadour, the latest work by Christopher Bruce in his 80th year. Known for a wide range of work and often choosing unconventional music accompaniment, this new piece is set to six iconic tracks from Leonard Cohen’s live performance at the 02 Arena in 2008 and deeply inspired by Cohen’s wonderful prose.
