Relics Recycling and Sculpture Workshop
Explore the world through objects to create a Relic with found objects and materials, with artist Dawn Woolley.
The objects in Woolley’s Relics series look like religious and spiritual relics, but they are created from packaging, carrier bags and beauty products. Do the products that we use and treasure today hold as much value as the religious pieces did through history? Will plastic waste be what we leave behind for future generations to remember us by?
Explore issues of consumer culture and environmental pollution to create a sculpture that warns against waste, or celebrates the things that are valued by in our society.
Woolley will create social media posts and Facebook adverts featuring photographs of sculptures created during the. workshops, so participants are invited to photograph their sculpture and send them to Woolley.
All welcome and no previous experience required. Suitable for all ages, though some scissor use may be necessary. Young children will need adult supervision.
Prior to the workshop you should collect packaging materials such as cardboard, drinks cans, plastic bags, netting etc. and also have scissors and tape handy. Wire such as food bag fasteners and sticky fixers / double-sided tape are optional.
