For one parent / carer and one child only per house hold | Event aimed at ages 3yrs - 10 yrs
Female Magik and RARA Education Project set up The Black PTA (parents and Teachers association) in February, a space where black parents and teachers can come together to share experiences and help support one another. From the first session we heard that parents are concerned about their children’s decreasing ability to play from their own imagination and the lack of motivation to play without the strong presence of an adult. As well as this parents felt they had seen a reduction in focus and concentration since the 3rd lockdown.
At that time parents were and are, still doing the absolute best they can working from home, homeschooling, attending to their own mental health and keeping up with housework and more! Our children’s wellbeing is our main priority but as we've waded through unprecedented times with responsibilities still to be adhered to it's no wonder that our little ones have been deeply impacted by the pandemic. Hearing the voices of parents in the PTA sessions has made it all the more clear, this is really concerning for children’s mental health.
In response to this concern Female Magik and BOOMCHIKABOOM are collaborating to host ‘May We Play’. We think this event presents the perfect opportunity for parents / carers and children to bond in ways they haven’t been able to for a long time. As creatives ourselves, there’s no better way than to incorporate expression through art forms to release, bond with family and have fun!
There'll be no zoom calls, no washing that needs to be put away, no distractions just time for parents / carers and child to make new memories and engage in a way we haven’t been experiencing through lockdown.
