2019 promises another unforgettable Leeds West Indian Carnival!

Every year, months of preparation and a frenzy of costume dreams culminate in the official Leeds West Indian Carnival events. This year we’ll celebrate 52 years with the usual frenzy of preparation culminating in one of the North of England’s biggest events on the last Monday in August.

With the jaw dropping costumes from across the UK and the perfect recipe of tastes, sights and sounds that make Leeds West Indian Carnival one of Europe’s most adored Caribbean carnivals our golden year promises to be extra special.

Sunday 18th August – Carnival Prince and Princess Show

Contestants compete to be crowned Leeds Carnival Prince and Princess 2019. Family fun filled show which will be jam packed with entertainment.

Venue: Leeds West Indian Centre, Laycock Place, Leeds, LS7 3AJ

Show Time: 3:00pm – 8:00pm

Admission on the door: Under 16s £2.00, 16s and over £3.00

 

Friday 23rd August – Carnival King and Queen Show

Be amazed by glamourous, vibrant costumes by talented designers from across the UK, all competing for the prestigious title of Leeds Carnival King & Queen 2019. Your host for this year is renowned Richard Blackwood! Come prepared for Kane who will have you crying with laughter, the musical talents of our very own New World Steel Orchestra and much more.

Join us for the after party at the Holiday Inn!

Venue: New Dock, Armouries Drive, Leeds LS10 1LT

Show Time: 7:30pm. Doors open at 6:30pm

Admission: Suitable for age 16 plus with parental guidance

Sunday 25th August ‘19 -Thanksgiving Service

Carnival is a celebration of the emancipation of slavery, join us as we thank and remember our forefathers for what they went through and for what we have achieved today.

Venue: Roscoe Church 132 Chapeltown Rd, Leeds LS7 4EE. Service starts: 10:30am – 1pm

 

Bank Holiday Monday 26th August

J’ouvert Morning

Start your carnival day on de road the traditional way jamming away to soca. Wake up the kids and bring them along to this mini parade. Wear your PJs, traditional costumes or rep a carnival troupe. It’s never too early to jam!

Venue: West Indian Centre, Laycock Place, Leeds LS7 3AJ

Show Time: 6:00am – 8:30am

Admission: free

Leeds Carnival Parade

See all the costumes in full glory parading the streets of Leeds with rhinestones, feathers and glitter to the sounds of soca and steelpan. This family friendly day is filled with fun, on stage entertainment and delicious food from the Caribbean.

Venue: Potternewton Park, Leeds LS7 4HB

Parade starts: 2:00pm returning around 5:30pm for judging of costumes on main stage

Admission: free
