Learning disabled actors bring their glam rock showstopper to Leeds Playhouse next month
12th November 2024
Have you got your ticket to The Paradise Club? It’s the hottest club in town. Or at least it was.
Back by popular demand, Bright Sparks’ company of learning disabled actors are opening the doors of The Paradise Club in the Bramall Rock Void at Leeds Playhouse from 4-5 December. The club has fallen on hard times and needs the best Christmas party ever to save the day.

John Hudson, Artistic Director of the Leeds-based theatre company, said: “The Paradise Club is open and all are welcome – if you’ve paid your subs! Our Christmas cracker of a play will remind you of fun festive times when Slade rocked the charts, tinsel filled the air and every high street had a busy local social club with top turns on. You never know who you might find at the bar: the lady mayoress, Big T the wrestler or Elvis the post man.

“Nothing stands in the way of progress though, and local developers want to tear down the club and turn it into a 24-hour mini market complete with student flats, because that’s what we need more of in Leeds apparently. So, join us in a time when communities stood together, when the city skyline wasn’t filled with tower blocks and people had tiger feet. You might even win the meat pie raffle.”

Can the cast of festive stars put on the best Christmas party ever? And will they save The Paradise Club? Expect a glam rock showstopper full of singing, dancing and partying that will transport you back to the 1970s. The show is a roller-coaster ride of rocking fun for everyone. Where else can you see Ziggy Stardust come down the chimney dressed as Santa?
