AUGUST AT LEEDS HERITAGE THEATRES

It’s finally the summer holidays and Leeds Heritage Theatres has something for everyone. Keep the kids entertained with our LHT Unwrapped events or treat yourselves to a night at the theatre with the UK’s favourite wordsmith Susie Dent at City Varieties, and award-winning productions at Leeds Grand Theatre, including the electrifying ‘Best Musical Revival’, Fiddler on the Roof, and the National Theatre’s much-loved stage adaptation of War Horse.

The Shawshank Redemption: Tue 19 – Sat 23 May 2026
Based on Stephen King’s 1982 novella, this thrilling stage production, starring Joe McFadden as Andy Dufresne, Ben Onwukwe as Ellis ‘Red’ Redding and Bill Ward as Stammas, examines friendship and hope behind the claustrophobic bars of a maximum-security facility.
SIX: Tue 3 – Sat 7 November 2026
The crowning glory of Broadway, the West End and beyond, the international smash-hit musical SIX makes its royal return to Leeds following four sell-out visits!

Fiddler on the Roof: Tue 29 July – Sat 2 August
A theatrical triumph, the Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre’s completely sold-out, electrifying Fiddler on the Roof is coming to Leeds in what is set to be the theatre event of 2025.
LHT Unwrapped: Drama Day: Tue 5 – Thu 7 August
Join us at Leeds Grand Theatre this August for an action-packed workshop for ages 6 – 14, bursting with drama, games, improv and script work. In time for LeedsBID’s city-wide celebration, Wonderland Awaits, our Drama Days will be drawing on the imaginative world and inspiring themes of Alice in Wonderland.
LHT Unwrapped: Play in a Week: Mon 11 August
Join us this August for Play in a Week, an opportunity for young people aged 9 – 11 to devise a variety show for Leeds Grand Theatre Studio. The Great Glass Elevator is landing this summer! Following our youth theatre production of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, we are taking inspiration from the second Wonka story, Charlie and the Great Glass Elevator.
War Horse: Tue 19 August – Sat 6 September
Based on the beloved novel by Michael Morpurgo, adapted by Nick Stafford, and directed by Tom Morris, this powerfully moving and imaginative drama from the National Theatre takes audiences on an extraordinary journey from rural Devon to the trenches of First World War France. At its heart are astonishing life-sized horses by South Africa’s Handspring Puppet Company, who bring breathing, galloping, charging horses to thrilling life on stage.

Susie Dent: Word Perfect: Wed 27 August
Following her hit show The Secret Life of Words, Susie Dent is back with a brand-new collection of facts and stories from the wonderful world of words. With the help of funny, insightful, and head-scratching examples, Susie will entertain and educate us with her pick of language’s greatest hits.
