Popular former Chow Down site to reopen as BAR Events Leeds with month long Oktoberfest celebration
3rd September 2026
One of Leeds’ best-known outdoor event spaces is set to reopen under new ownership this autumn, bringing a packed programme of events back to the city.
The former Chow Down site has been transformed into BAR Events Leeds, a brand new venue from the team behind Yorkshire based BAR Events UK, with its first major event being a month long Oktoberfest celebration throughout October.
Less than a ten minute walk from Leeds Train Station, BAR Events Leeds will be home to a giant teepee beer hall complete with live Oompah bands, authentic German street food, a fully stocked bar serving beer in traditional 2 pint steins, and a lively festival atmosphere every Thursday to Sunday throughout October.
The venue will open to the public on Friday 2nd October then run every Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday throughout, with one session on Thursdays and Fridays and two sessions each Saturday and Sunday. Tickets are priced at just £5, making it one of Leeds’ most accessible seasonal events this autumn.
But Oktoberfest is only the beginning.
The team behind BAR Events Leeds plans to host a calendar of themed pop-up events throughout the year, while also making the venue available for private celebrations, corporate events and community gatherings.
Owner of BAR Events UK and BAR Events Leeds, Dan Lakin, said: “I’ve been running events for decades, and BAR Events UK has now been creating memorable experiences for over 11 years. During that time we’ve delivered thousands of weddings, festivals, corporate events and private celebrations across Yorkshire and beyond. I’d been looking for the right venue where we could create something permanent, hosting regular public events as well as private functions. I never expected to find such an incredible open space right on the doorstep of Leeds city centre, and when this opportunity came up I knew I had to take it.
Oktoberfest is just the start. We’ve got lots of exciting ideas planned for the site over the coming months, and we’re looking forward to creating a venue that people return to again and again. Whether it’s a night out with friends, a corporate event or a private celebration, we hope BAR Events Leeds becomes somewhere the city can really enjoy.”
With easy access from the city centre and a packed programme of live entertainment, BAR Events Leeds hopes to become one of Leeds’ newest destinations for unique outdoor events.
