Travelling to Leeds

Planning your ideal family break is so much more than just picking amazing attractions or unique activities to keep everyone happy. You also need to consider how you’ll get there, and get around too. Because as every family knows, well-planned travel arrangements are one of the biggest stress busters around!

Luckily, Leeds is well served for pretty much every type of transport going. Reaching the city by public transport is a breeze, with a big, accessible city centre train station served by regular, fast inter-city routes and a huge network of regional and local services too. Or coaches from all over the UK will drop you off in the heart of the action too.

There are some handy savings to be had too if you shop around for tickets and deals – Northern Rail offer a Family and Friends Railcard with ⅓ off fares, for example, and LNER offer up to 48% off some services with Family Returns from London and other major cities. As for coaches, there’s a 10% saving to be had for kids on many Megabus routes, and National Express offer some of their cheapest tickets on routes connected to Leeds, as low as £6.90 from London.

If you want to bring your own car there’s loads of city centre parking available, from secure multi-story or underground car parks to cheaper options on the edge of the city centre. You can even park for free at three Park & Ride locations. Fares into the city are £3, with up to three children (under 19) free with every fare-paying adult with the bus dropping you off right in the city centre. Once you’re here, you can reach pretty much anywhere in the city centre within a short walk – 15 minutes will take you everywhere you need to be.

For drivers, our attractions and destinations are nearly all served by ample parking, either on site or within a short walk. Our bus network spans out from the city centre too, reaching pretty much every corner of Leeds with quick, modern services. There are plenty of options for day tickets too – a WY Family Daysaver will take two adults and three children anywhere in Yorkshire, all day, for £13.70!

Plus, there’s nothing stopping you from venturing outside of the city centre while you’re here, and there are plenty of day trips to tackle which you can find here.
