PIZZA PILGRIMS BRINGS THEIR JOYFUL STYLE OF NEAPOLITAN PIZZA TO LEEDS, BUILDING THE WORLD’S FIRST PINK FLAMINGO PEDALO SOFT SERVE MACHINE, AND CELEBRATING BY GIVING AWAY 1000 FREE SLICES

On Monday 13th November, Pizza Pilgrims will be opening their latest pizzeria in the heart of Leeds on Boar Lane. To welcome in their new regulars, Pizza Pilgrims are giving away 1,000 free slices of the good stuff on Monday 6th November from 12pm onwards.
Pizza Pilgrims will be bringing their signature style of Neapolitan pizza to the city. Their dough is double fermented over 72 hours to give a pillowy, puffed crust that is both incredibly moreish and surprisingly light. Pizza Pilgrims are famous for celebrating the best of traditional pizzas from Naples such as the Margherita Extra-Extra, which features datterini tomatoes, creamy burrata & fresh basil pesto and the Americana, topped with hot dogs and french fries, which is one of Naples most surprising (but legit) pizzas! They also like to play a little outside of tradition with pizzas like the double pepperoni and spicy honey or the Carbonara with roasted guanciale bacon, Pecorino cheese, egg yolk and finished with a few strands of al dente pasta… double carbs never tasted so sweet!
The Leeds pizzeria is opening as Pizza Pilgrims celebrates 10 years in the pizza game. The founders (and brothers) James and Thom Elliot set up the brand in 2012 after a 6 week “pizza pilgrimage”, travelling the length of Italy in a 3-wheeled tuk-tuk, in search of the greatest pizzas and produce that the country has to offer.
Entering a Pizza Pilgrims pizzeria takes you on a journey back to Italy as soon as you walk in the door, evoking summer holiday vibes in the Amalfi coast. This pizzeria will be recreating a Naples piazza scene with double height ceilings, shuttered windows with Juliette balconies and handpicking vintage Italian artworks to really set the scene. The crowning glory of the design is going to be “The Frozen Flamingo”, the world’s first full sized “Pink flamingo pedalo soft serve gelato shop” which will sit centre stage in the pizzeria. Guests will be able to create their own soft serve creations and then take a seat on the pedalo and pedal off their pizzas!
Pizza Pilgrims is built on the foundation of their pilgrimages through Italy and follows the simple Italian belief that the best ingredients make the best pizza. For this reason, all key ingredients are imported from Italy – from the best ’00’ flour Naples has to offer from the famous Caputo mill in the city centre, to their tomato sauce made from only Italian tomatoes and their mozzarella from Naples which they ship direct to the pizzeria every week. Pizza Pilgrims also work closely with Harvest London, the sustainability focused hydroponic vertical farming supplier who helped them to develop their very own strand of basil for the best flavour, as well as reducing their food miles dramatically. , “I am so excited to be opening a pizzeria in Leeds. My first job in pizza was 15 years ago at an Italian restaurant called Salvo’s in Headingley whilst at uni and it’s great to be back! We’re creating a really fun space that will transport people to a holiday in the South of Italy. Pizza is all about fun and so we are excited to be building our most fun pizzeria yet!”

Like most good ideas, Pizza Pilgrims started in the pub in 2011. Street food was just taking off and London was being treated to new and delicious food, all from the comfort of the pavement. Brothers James and Thom wanted in, and they wanted pizza. Traditional, unbelievably delicious Neapolitan pizza, to be precise.
They decided to fly to the toe-end of Italy, pick up a three-wheel Piaggio Ape van and drive the 4,500km back to London, stopping off along the way at all the best pizza destinations. The pilgrimage, as it became known, was born.
After learning all they could about the true art of pizza making, they began serving their pizza at London’s famed Berwick Street Market. The first Pizza Pilgrims permanent pizzeria launched in Soho in 2013, and they now have over 20 pizzerias across the UK.
In 2023, James and Thom paid a second pilgrimage to Naples in an even more ridiculous pizza wagon – THE PIZZA VESPA! During the 10-day trip, they visited icons of the Neapolitan pizza scene, as well as suppliers and friends they have made over the last 10 years.
