Workshop: Beyond English Wikipedia
Did you know there are Wikipedias in over 300 different languages, each with its own dedicated community? English Wikipedia is by far the biggest with more than 7 million articles and 270,000 active users, while other European languages near the top of the table include German, French, Spanish and Italian. At the other end of the wiki spectrum are smaller Wikipedias in all manner of languages from Africa, India and the Global South: Igbo from Nigeria, Twi from Ghana, Gujarati and Samoan, to mention just a few.
Join us for an in-person workshop to translate Wikipedia! If you are a proficient user or a native speaker in any language other than English, please come along and help us translate Wikipedia!
Non-university participants are welcome. Pre-registration is necessary.
In partnership with the University of Leeds Libraries. Wikimedia UK and the Knowledge Equity Network
This is a Leeds City of Languages Festival event. Check the full programme at leedscityoflanguages.leeds.ac.uk
