The Victoria & Commercial in Leeds city centre is reflecting on an incredible opening month as the city embraces the return of one its most iconic pubs. Now in its second month and having refined its delicious trial menu throughout December, ‘The Vic’ is launching its first official permanent menu featuring plenty of customer favourites and introducing new dishes.

The new menu is a testament to The Vic’s heritage and a showcase of the highest-quality local and seasonal ingredients. Put together by former Whitelock’s Head Chef Nick Robertson, the official menu includes mainstays such as the 6oz Beef Patty Victoria Burger and Beer-battered Haddock and Chips as well as nods to the pub’s past like the Guinness & Beef Shin Steamed Suet Pudding and forward-thinking contemporary twists such as the Confit Duck Leg with Chorizo Cassoulet and the Kohlrabi Tarte Tatin.

With something for everyone, the permanent menu offers a variety of vegetarian and vegan options throughout whether you’re stopping in for bar snacks or staying for a full Sunday lunch with Lamb Gigot Steak, Pork Tomahawk, Rump Cap and Salt-baked Celeriac Pithivier all on offer and served with Carrot Puree, Piccolo Parsnips, Roasted Potatoes, Kalettes, Braised Red Cabbage, Yorkshire Pudding and Gravy.

Since opening its doors on the 5th December, The Vic has been busy seven days a week and sold a staggering 40,000 pints in its first month alone. To have been received so warmly by the community means everything to the pub’s new operators and they are keen to pay that forward, including launching a range of community-focused regular events, the first of which will be the return of the iconic Jazz at The Vic.

Every Thursday from 29th January, the main bar will play host to a live jazz trio at 8pm and space will be made available for dancing, although it is certainly not compulsory. Another regular event launching on Monday 2nd of February is The Vic’s regular pub quiz with £1 entry and cash jackpots every week. Before closing its doors in 2020, The Victoria had been the heart of the local community for 150 years and its new proprietors hope that with carefully curated regular events like Jazz at The Vic and the regular pub quiz, it can become a home from home for so many once again.

Built in 1865, the Grade II listed building features one of Leeds’ most impressive pub interiors and has been lovingly brought back to life by the teams behind Kirkstall BreweryWhitelock’s and White Cloth Hall. Following painstaking refurbishment undertaken to restore the Victorian splendour of the building, which was closed for almost six years, the pub now once again serves the people of Leeds under the stewardship of the teams behind some of Leeds’ most loved hospitality venues.

Steve Holt, Director – Kirkstall Brewery said:

“We couldn’t be more proud of the team and our wonderful community for making the first month at The Vic so fantastic after such a painstaking restoration journey. 40,000 pints is just incredible and we’re so excited for the future; here’s to plenty more.  ”

Ed Mason, Director – Whitelock’s said:

“So many generations of Leeds locals have a special connection to the Victoria and the good times they spent there so it’s truly a privilege to see the place bursting with life again. After a month of careful research and refinement, we’re excited for you to sample our permanent menu. Stopping in for a sandwich or in the mood for something bigger? Let us know what’s good!”
