Immerse yourself in the festive season with a magical adventure through some of the fascinating Historic Houses across Leeds. Prepare yourself for special lighting effects bringing a touch of magic and colour to the garden’s magnificent trees and shrubs and see iconic features including Winter Walks, after dark illuminations and Christmas trails


Harewood’s Festive Season 

13th November 2021 – 3rd January 2022: 10am – 6pm

Explore your imagination this festive season by roaming the gardens and grounds of Harewood house. Decorated with shining lights, giant Christmas trees and toasty fires, experience a stunning production telling a Christmas tale like never before. Delve into hidden valleys and skip across steppingstones in the Himalayan Garden and say ‘Merry Christmas’ to our friends in the Bird Garden getting ready for the festive period. Be sure to visit the Courtyard Café and indulge in yummy festive drinks and hearty traditional lunches.


Lotherton Christmas Experience 

27th November 2021 – 2nd January 2022

Step into a world of traditional Christmas magic at Lotherton’s Christmas Experience! Take a whimsical wonder through the Festive Woodland Walk including larger than life Christmas traditions and interactive elements for the whole family to enjoy. Surrounded by twinkling lights, winding paths and traditional Christmas installations, uncover the secret fairy hideaway at The Fairy Dell and take a peek at their tiny town before taking the little ones to visit Santa in The Elf Village – Under the Wishing Tree for some exciting stories and activities. Ticket numbers are limited and all visitors (including Lotherton members and any other free entries) must have a pre-book ticket before visiting.

Christmas at Temple Newsam 

26th November 2021 – 2nd January 2022 (select dates only)

Walk under the stars and enjoy the mesmerising after-dark illuminated trail through the festive grounds and gardens of Temple Newsam. Discover themed trees inspired by their magical estate and handcrafted Christmas trees that tell the historic tales of Temple Newsam.  At Home Farm, cosy up by the roaring workshop fire and take a close peak at the ground’s farmyard friends bedding down for winter. See the mansion house decorated for the lord and lady of the manor and meet Santa Claus to pick up an early Christmas gift. There’s lots of lovely presents for those who have been good this year!


Reindeer Trail at Kirkstall Abbey

1st December – 23rd December

This Christmas Santa’s favourite furry helpers are hiding all over Kirkstall Abbey. Come along this December and see if you can spot all of the reindeer dotted around the grounds and ruins in this special festive reindeer trail. Sporting different costumes and patterns, they are dressed up and decorated, ready to be discovered. Take pictures of each one you find and let us know which is your favourite!
