Funstation Officially Opens in Leeds City Centre with Community at its Heart

Funstation, one of the UK’s leading family entertainment centres, has officially opened its brand-new venue in The Light, Leeds and is already leaving a lasting impression on the local community. The opening night, held on 10th April, marked a major milestone for the business as it continues to expand across the UK, offering immersive, interactive and fun-filled experiences for guests of all ages.

Funstation kicked off the celebrations in style, inviting a special group of guests for an exclusive preview ahead of the public opening. What stood out throughout the evening was Funstation’s ongoing commitment to its communities. Many of the event’s VIPs were children and families supported by local charities and members of the youth sports teams the business sponsors. It was a celebration not just of a new venue but of shared values: fun, inclusion and community.

Invited attendees included local Rays of Sunshine Wish Families, Funstation subscribers and representatives from Pontefract Collieries – a grassroots football club sponsored by Funstation – and The Hunslet Club, a not-for-profit youth organisation supporting young people across Leeds through sport, performing arts and personal development.

The Lord Mayor of Leeds, Councillor Abigail Marshall Katung, was also in attendance and joined guests for an evening full of fun and games, taking time to experience the venue’s full offering.  After getting stuck in on the basketball and air hockey, the Lord Mayor officially declared the venue open to the public with a ceremonial ribbon cutting and confetti cannons, marking the beginning of Funstation’s journey in Leeds.

“Opening our doors in Leeds is more than just launching a new venue; it’s about becoming part of a vibrant community,” said Chris Alexander, spokesperson for Funstation. “We’re incredibly proud to bring the Funstation experience to The Light in Leeds and to celebrate this milestone alongside the amazing families, charities and local organisations that share our values. This is just the beginning and we’re excited to grow together with the people of Leeds.”

A highlight of the evening was the celebration of Funstation’s longstanding partnership with Rays of Sunshine, a charity that grants wishes for seriously ill children across the UK. For over a decade, Funstation has proudly supported the charity and, to mark the occasion, made a £5,000 donation to help grant even more magical wishes. Representatives from the charity and local Wish families were in attendance, further highlighting the importance that Funstation places on giving back to the community.

With strong local ties, a vibrant new venue and a heart for community, Funstation is already a must-visit destination in Leeds, becoming a welcome new hub for fun and a proud new member of the local community.
