Danni’s Favourite Way to Spend the Day in Leeds!

6th August 2020

Danni describes her favourite way to spend the day in Leeds…

IF on Call Lane is the perfect spot for breakfast, serving local coffee from North Star Coffee Roasters and fantastic brunch food including eggs benedict, shakshuka and IF breakfast burrito. My favourite is IF’s Yorkshire Breakfast, a full English made with local produce. The best way to start the day especially if you are about to spend the morning doing a little bit of shopping!

Leeds is a haven for shoppers with beautiful arcades, shopping centres and fantastic independent shops in listed buildings – it is a brilliant place to shop. After breakfast, I walk up to Leeds Corn Exchange, a stunning listed building with independent shops located inside. There is truly something for everyone; pick up some jewellery from Dion Smith Jewellery, get lost in the jungle that is The Plant Point or find the perfect record at Released Records. You can even grab a sweet treat from 42nd East Bakehouse who are baking up a storm!

Leeds Kirkgate Market

I have a wander to Kirkgate Market and browse the stalls. The market is one of the largest covered markets in Europe so there are plenty of places to explore.  From fresh food, drink and fashion to jewellery, flowers, hardware and haberdashery it keeps me wandering for a while! If you’re looking for a bite to eat, I recommend a visit to the Market Kitchen, there is a fantastic selection of food, from The Yorkshire Wrap Company to Bánh & Mee Vietnamese Street Kitchen.

After an afternoon shopping and exploring the market, I find my way to the Indian Tiffin Room, a restaurant which specialises in authentic Indian street food. Offering an amalgamation of various regional dishes that are very popular in different parts of India, there are plenty of options including those that cater for vegetarians and vegans. From Chilli paneer, kababs, Kokrum fish curry to vegetable Biryani and chilli squid. The restaurant is beautifully decorated; you feel like you have been transported to the middle of India. I end the evening with drinks on the newly pedestrianised Greek Street, with plenty of bars it is definitely an exciting place to be! You are spoilt for choice with Bar Soba, Lost and Found, Manahatta and the Alchemist. The Alchemist has a tantalising array of cocktails based on the theme of alchemy and molecular mixology. You can easily spend an evening sampling their unique cocktails, my favourites of the evening being the one that changes colour before your eyes and ‘The Bubblebath’. I would definitely find my way back to the Alchemist another evening to try some more of their crazy cocktails!
