Popworld: Pure pop perfection heading for Lower Briggate

20th November 2018

Get ready to dust off your disco shoes and grab your fellow dancing queens, because the bar that puts the letter ‘P’ into pop is bringing its unique brand of party vibes to Lower Briggate. The legendary Popworld is set to open its second Leeds venue, just 18 months after they shimmied onto Cookridge Street in all their shiny glory.

The new club will feature a dramatic £240k facelift that will see it transformed into a state-of-the-art pop Mecca and place of worship for music lovers. It will also create eight new part-time jobs.

As part of the new generation of Popworld branded bars, revellers can expect cosy booths, dazzling light displays, and an Insta-worthy dancefloor fit for an old-school Steps video.

Go pop or go home

Did we mention that the theme here is pop? And we’re not talking Brit Pop, Indie Pop or even Pop Rock, because Popworld only celebrates pop in its purest form. Think bubble-gum, dance and disco. In short, you can expect a never-ending rollercoaster of guilty pleasures ranging from cheesy classics to cooler, more contemporary cuts.

This will be the place to go in Leeds to get Into The Groove with pop queen Madonna, and Step Back In Time to pint-sized Kylie’s classic tunes. Moving into the 90s, and you can never have Too Much Spice Girls and who wouldn’t go Crazy over Britney’s pop bangers?

But, as Popworld is a place that celebrates the best of the past, the present and the future, the playlist will feature modern-day pop princesses Dua Lipa, Ariana Grande and Jess Glynne on heavy rotation.

Popworld Partini

The cocktail menu has been designed to guarantee you make like Pink and Get The Party Started, and includes Popworld’s signature Partini Sharers. Choose from classics such as the Pornstar Martini and Sex On The Beach, or go all-out Popworld with the brands very own Bubble-Gum Martini and Funfair Flaska.

Already sweet enough? No sweat. There will be draught lager, bottled beer, and a range of premium spirits and mixer to make sure nobody goes thirsty. The club will be open from 9pm-4am every Thursday, Friday and Saturday, where early bird party people can get their pop fix for nothing with free entry before midnight.

Thursday will host student night, which features drink offers from £2 upwards, whilst 50% off drinks between 9-11pm on Friday’s will ensure the weekend starts with a bang.

Musical journey

Carl Burns, Atmosphere and Events Coordinator for Popworld, spoke ahead of the launch:

“Popworld is the big night out that delivers all your guilty pleasures in a way that doesn’t offend.

We take you on a musical journey from the Spice Girls through to Bruno Mars, then back to the nostalgic days of Queen and the YMCA.”

“Fun is the name of our game and so we give our customers what they want and plenty of it. There really ain’t no party like a Popworld party!”

Popworld launches on Friday 23rd November, so mark that date on your social calendar and Say You’ll Be There.
