October Half-Term: Stories from the Steppe
Mongolian storytelling is a rich oral tradition deeply rooted in nomadic life. Stories in Mongolia serve as both entertainment and education. Gathered around the hearth in a traditional ger (tent), elders used myths to pass down survival skills, respect for the sacred mountains, and a shared national identity.
Join us this October half term at The Royal Armouries Museum to learn more about how these myths and legends shaped the cultural identity of the steppe, and for your last chance to experience our amazing exhibition about Genghis Khan and the impact the Mongols had on global civilisation.
What to expect…
Craft Activities: Have a go at making Mongolian-inspired shields and banners.
Traditional Games and Pastimes: Come and try your hand at the popular Mongolian game of knucklebone shooting.
Arming the Mongolian Horseman: Watch as a cavalryman is armed with the authentic kit and weaponry of this legendary warrior class.
Gallery Trail: Pick up a free trail sheet and explore the Asian and African Gallery with Mongolian messenger, Batu the Fast.
