The Loud Silence
The Loud Silence event, in partnership with Leeds Women in Black.
Palestinian film-maker and journalist Juman Quenis came to study in Leeds in 2023.
In the depths of sadness after the events of 7th October, she was comforted by coming across a silent protest in Leeds city centre – women dressed in black with banners against Israel’s occupation of Palestine.
She was inspired to make a film exploring both the power of silent protest, and the many factors influencing the women involved. They talk very movingly of their varied religious beliefs, the impact of other struggles for justice, and deep personal grief and loss.
Filmmaker Juman is travelling from the West Bank to Leeds especially to introduce this premier screening of her film.
Come and enjoy a warm and inspiring evening of film, food and discussion.
Women in Black is a loose international network of women calling for peace. The Leeds group was inspired by Women in Black in Jerusalem.
