Suminagashi Marbling and Orizome Workshop – Print Festival 2026
Explore the traditional Japanese art of suminagashi and orizome with Ciarrai Samson.
In this hands-on workshop, you’ll explore suminagashi, the traditional Japanese art of marbling by gently floating ink on water and capturing the organic patterns created on paper. Then you’ll experiment with orizome, a traditional Japanese papercraft method of folding paper and dyeing – the ink travels along paper creases to create striking patterns.
By the end of the sessions, you will leave with a collection of beautiful unique papers that can be used for cards, book arts, collage etc.
All materials are provided but you may want to bring a plastic bag or wallet to carry your work home.
This session is suitable for beginners and those over the age of 12 when accompanied by an adult.
This workshop is taking place as part of our Print Festival. Find out more > https://www.sunnybankmills.co.uk/arts/print-festival-2026
