Leeds Philanthropy Over the Centuries
In this guided walk, we look at some of the city’s key philanthropists and benefactors. We’ll visit the places, institutions and buildings they supported and explore the stories behind them as we consider the role of philanthropy in Leeds.
We will look at philanthropy in the 16th century, when Thomas Wade’s legacy to the town of Leeds to created many of our city’s greenspaces, to the bountiful bequests of Lady Betty Hastings in the 18th century, to philanthropy in the 21st century with philanthropists like Liz and Terry Bramall and Dr Keith Howard.
