Discover the Guzheng: Sounds and Stories from China
As part of Leeds Libraries Thursday community lunch time pop up performances we are proud to host:
Discover the Guzheng: Sounds and Stories from China.
Join guzheng musician and University of Leeds PhD researcher Lijun (Mio) Zhang for a relaxed lunchtime introduction to one of China’s best-known traditional string instruments.
Mio will introduce the guzheng, demonstrate some of its distinctive sounds and playing techniques, and share stories behind Chinese music and the instrument’s cultural heritage. Through live performance, audiences will hear the guzheng across different musical worlds — from traditional Chinese pieces and contemporary popular songs to familiar Western melodies.
There will also be time to see the instrument up close, ask questions and learn more about Chinese music in an informal and welcoming setting. No previous musical knowledge is needed.
