Winter Solstice Sound Bath in the Gallery
Join The Art of Healing for an hour long sound bath during the evening of the Winter Solstice. Reset your mind and calm your body.
The sound bath is part of a programme of events running in the Gallery at Sunny Bank Mills during our Autumn/Winter exhibition, Soft Light.
“We live in a culture that rarely slows down and December can be one of the most hectic times of year, full of plans, eating, drinking and lots of socialising. You name it the list goes on… but amongst all the busyness sometimes all you want is just a moment to breathe.
Just four days before Christmas we get the Winter Solstice on the 21st December, which marks the shortest day and the longest night of the year, a perfect chance to take a gentle pause.
The Solstice brings more than just cold and darkness, it’s a natural signal that it’s time to slow down, reflect and make space for what’s next. Our sound bath gives you an entire hour to do just that.
Join us for a uniquely immersive sound bath where guests will lie down surrounded by art at Sunny Bank Mills whilst we create a deeply calming and restorative soundscape which will feel like a gentle hug for your nervous system.
No experience or participation is needed. Come as you are and we’ll help you to unwind, let go of the day and take a gentle pause before the year ends. On the longest night of the year, give yourself permission to rest.”
We’ll provide everything you need for the session – Yoga mats, blankets, eye masks. You are also more than welcome to bring your own if you’d prefer.
Please wear warm, loose & comfy clothing.
Event flow
We’ll begin with a five-minute guided somatic shake: a gentle opportunity for guests to move their bodies and release some of the tension. Guests can take part in whatever way feels comfortable for them.
Afterwards, everyone will settle onto their mats for a 55-minute sound bath. They’ll simply lie down and listen as we create a calming soundscape using crystal singing bowls, a gong, chimes and other instruments.
We’ll bring the session to a gentle close, giving guests a moment to come back to the space before they leave.
