Notton Wood

This local nature reserve has been enjoyed for its woodland walks for a number of years. Originally planted for its commercial value, this woodland consists mostly of pine and larch trees, with some stands of broad-leaves.

Notton Wood has a number of pathways and tracks which make the area interesting to explore on foot or by bicycle.

Within the wood there is a late prehistoric settlement site. Although difficult to find it is surrounded by a ditch with an inner and outer bank. The break in the ditch and banks on its south east side may have been the original entrance.

Notton has some interesting woodland birds such as woodpeckers and jays. Kingfishers and heron can sometimes be seen near the pond and stream. Butterflies, including the comma, speckled wood and peacocks are often seen in the summer months.
