வித்து SEED: Premiere with Live Performance

29th November 2026

What does it mean to belong? How do we find connection in a world shaped by displacement, uncertainty and change?

*வித்து SEED*, the debut solo animation by illustrator and animator Jason Ramasami, invites audiences on a poetic journey through these questions. Premiering for the first time at Hyde Park Picture House, this evocative work brings together striking animation, abstract Tamil letterforms and symbolic imagery with a powerful live musical score by composer and violinist Preetha Narayanan.

Following a bruised wanderer through a hostile landscape, *வித்து SEED* traces a perilous journey towards an unexpected discovery: an enduring spiritual source revealed through an act of selfless hospitality. Themes of identity, belonging, resilience and renewal unfold through a richly layered story that speaks to our shared longing for connection and hope.

**Where Animation Meets Live Music**

Created through an intensive creative process during Spring and Summer 2026, *வித்து SEED* brings image and sound into an intimate, immersive dialogue. Jason’s expressive animation is accompanied by a newly commissioned score by Preetha, composed for a quartet of Carnatic musicians featuring violin, veena, mridangam and ghatam.

Rooted in South Asian artistic traditions yet embracing contemporary experimentation, this multi-sensory performance creates a space where heritage and innovation meet — revealing the possibilities that emerge when artists collaborate across disciplines.

More than a screening, *வித்து SEED* is an invitation to pause, reflect and reconnect. Like a seed carrying the promise of new life, the work celebrates the transformative power of storytelling, music and imagination to nurture understanding and bring people together.

**Stay for the Post-Screening Conversation**

Following the screening, join Jason Ramasami (illustrator and animator) and Preetha Narayanan (composer and violinist) for a conversation exploring the creative journey behind *வித்து SEED*.

Moderated by Yamana Jaman-Browne (SAA-uk HeadStart Trainee), the discussion will offer insight into the origins of the animation, the making of its original soundtrack and the possibilities of collaboration across artforms in today’s cultural landscape.

Discover the ideas, inspirations and creative decisions behind this distinctive new work, and gain a deeper understanding of how animation and live music can come together to tell stories that resonate across cultures and experiences.

Featuring a live musical score by composer and violinist Preetha Narayanan, performed by a Carnatic quartet featuring:

– Prathap Ramachandra – Mridangam
– Pavi Prathab – Veena
– Mathangi Uthayakumar – Carnatic violin
– Sambavi Uthayakumar – Carnatic violin and vocals

This thoughtful 2D hand-drawn animation creates a contemplative space to pause, reflect and reconnect. In an increasingly fractured world, *வித்து SEED* stands as a glowing symbol of hope, celebrating the power of storytelling, music and imagination to bring people together.
