Instrument + Leeds Cineforum 10th Anniversary Party
Instrument (1999) is a fittingly unconventional portrait of the legendary DC punk band Fugazi, tracing the band’s evolution from its origins through its electrifying prime.
Directed by filmmaker Jem Cohen and filmed over more than a decade (1987–1998), the documentary captures the ferocious energy of the band’s live performances alongside intimate moments backstage and in the studio. In doing so, it offers a rare glimpse into an often-enigmatic group whose unwavering commitment to independence, anti-corporate ethics, and activism continues to inspire the DIY underground.
The film will be introduced by Fugazi-fan Dr Alice Borchi.
In the same DIY spirit, after the screening of Instrument, there is a celebration of the 10th anniversary of Leeds Cineforum.
This screening is taking place in the Snug at Hyde Park Book Club. The Snug event space is step-free via a wheelchair ramp, the space itself is small but there is enough room for wheelchair access.
Free Entry – just turn up
Presented by Leeds Cineforum.
Part of Scalarama Leeds DIY Film Festival 2026.
