Leeds Jazz Festival: Emma Rawicz’s INKYRA
Tenor saxophonist and composer Emma Rawicz brings her new six – piece ensemble, INKYRA, to the Howard Assembly Room for an evening of contemporary jazz as part of Leeds Jazz Festival.
The band features established UK musicians Gareth Lockrane, David Preston, Scottie Thompson, Kevin Glasgow and Jamie Murray. Together, the group blends modern jazz with elements of rock energy, fusion and the melodic storytelling of the singer – songwriter tradition. While the music remains firmly within a jazz framework, Rawicz drew direct inspiration from the harmonic structures, chord progressions and lyricism of Joni Mitchell when composing the programme.
The performance balances inventive, structured composition with the spontaneous energy of a live jazz set, offering a welcoming experience for audiences looking to discover fresh British jazz. Presented by Jazz Leeds.
