Leeds Waterfront Guided Tour
Through Leeds City Centre runs the Leeds and Liverpool Canal and River Aire. This waterfront has played an important role in the history of the city, from goods shipping across the North of England, to the creation of Leeds as a major Victorian industrial centre, to modern businesses, homes and cultural spaces.
Visit places such as Marshall’s Mill, once believed to be the largest in Europe, and its wonderful Egyptian temple-themed building. The terminus of the Leeds end of the Leeds and Liverpool Canal, now part of Granary Wharf with its thriving riverside communities. Aire Park, a new area of Leeds that started opening in 2023, transforming the site of what was once the largest brewery in Britain into a contemporary space with a sprawling park and new buildings. Leeds Dock, a large inland dock that played a pivotal role in Leeds’ place as an industrial powerhouse that is now home to leading UK household name companies.
The tour includes stories about the people who lived in the area over the centuries, old maps to see how the area has developed and tales of important, sometimes amusing events that helped shape the area.
This tour is perfect for visitors to the city, and residents who want to know more about where they live.
