The Sensational Alex Harvey Experience
Since forming 10 years ago as a ‘Sensational’ tribute to Scotland’s finest, one-of-a-kind rock sons and his band, the Sensational Alex Harvey Experience (SAHE) have grown to become one of the most respected tribute bands on the circuit.
They are described as “the best SAHB tribute band out there”, by Zal Cleminson himself. 2025 is an anniversary for the band which coincides with the 50 year anniversary of the release of the legendary SAHB ‘Live’ album. SAHE will play all songs from the album as part of their 2025 set. They also have the nod from kin of the late, great and sadly missed Alex Harvey (“My dad would have approved” -Alex Harvey Jr.), which is another pointer to the combined talents of vocalist Andy Massie, keyboardist David Cowan, guitarist Rob Jones, bass player Nelson McFarlane and drummer Chris Killen. (Cowan and McFarlane also recorded and toured as members of Zal Cleminson’s /Sin Dogs/). Original SAHB bass player (Chris Glen) has also shared the stage with SAHE and said “they are the best SAHB since SAHB!”
The band has almost 7k followers on their Facebook page and played in venues the length and breadth of the UK. In 2025/26 the band aims to visit areas where they have not yet appeared e.g. North West of England, Wales, London and Northern Ireland.
Those who have seen the band live will attest to their musicality and theatricality. This is a party band (with a hint of menace!). Also, the band has released versions of SAHB songs (fully licensed from Universal) including a 2024 Xmas Single and video (Spotify and YouTube links on the next page).
The songs have been given rightful and respectful nods to SAHB originals whilst adding a modern, contemporary-edged twist to each classic. An SAHE album and live DVD will be released later in 2025. Recording and releasing new licensed versions of classic numbers is an innovative approach for a tribute band but one that has been welcomed by SAHB aficionados of old, and new fans picked up ‘on the road.’ But then, the Sensational Alex Harvey Experience are first and foremost SAHB fans themselves, dedicated to keeping both the music, and the theatrics, alive. Hopefully, in 2025 and beyond the band will venture even further afield.
The Sensational Alex Harvey Experience has already toured extensively throughout the UK to great receptions and are regular headliners at the annual SAHBROCK Charity event in Glasgow which benefits the Glasgow Sick Children’s Hospital. The band has also played at various other festivals e.g. Cropredy /Brasenose, The Tyneside Americana Festival, The Arran Festival, The Mad Hatters Festival and Crookfest. Numerous Gigs have been played throughout the UK in e.g. Darlington, Kingston-Upon-Hull, Gravesend, Torquay, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Newcastle, Galashiels, Leeds, Barnsley, Sheffield, Dundee, Carlisle etc etc
