Vedic Sounds of Medieval India
Join us for a very special lunchtime recital of Dhrupad music — one of the oldest and most profound styles of Hindustani classical tradition.
This recital will be led by the highly versatile vocalist Deepa Shakthi, disciple of the legendary Pt. Uday Bhawalkar, accompanied by Mehar-Jot Singh Sagoo on Jori and Ikjot Kaur on Taanpura.
Rooted in ancient Vedic hymns and mantras, Dhrupad is a form of worship through sound — meditative, spiritual, and deeply moving.
Described as solemn, uplifting, and heroic, it carries centuries of tradition, once flourishing under the patronage of Emperor Akbar and Raja Maan Singh Tomar, and immortalised by court musicians such as Swami Haridas and Mian Tansen.
This is a rare opportunity to experience music that transcends time — an offering to the divine, brought to life by today’s leading practitioners.
