Li-Wei Qin and Jeremy Young

16th January 2026

Celebrated Australian‑Chinese cellist Li‑Wei Qin returns to the UK for a rare, intimate concert as part of his 50th‑birthday celebrations. A former Australian Young Musician of the Year, BBC New Generation Artist and winner of the Royal Overseas League Gold Medal, the Naumburg Competition and the Tchaikovsky Competition silver medal, Qin is today the leading cellist of Australasia, performing with orchestras such as the London Symphony, Los Angeles Philharmonic and Melbourne Symphony.

Joining him is long‑time duo partner Jeremy Young, an acclaimed pianist and Senior Professor of Piano at the Royal Northern College of Music. Both artists have strong ties to the North West—Qin studied with Ralph Kirschbaum at the RNCM, and Young is Head of Piano Chamber Music there.

The programme showcases their decades‑long collaboration and global experience, featuring works that have defined their partnership, including Beethoven’s Cello Sonata No 5 in D major, Op. 102, which they first performed at their Lincoln Center debut over 25 years ago.

Programme:
Benjamin Britten – Sonata in C
Johannes Brahms – Sonata in E minor
Interval
Dongqing Fang – Lin Chong
Ludwig van Beethoven – Sonata in D major, Op. 102
