Paul Thompson : ‘Absurdly Funny! The Great Comic Songbook’
After two triumphant, sell-out performances celebrating the songs of Jake Thackray (Beware of the Bull) alongside John Watterson, Paul Thompson returns to Seven Arts with an evening of classic comic songs.
Paul, co-author of the acclaimed Jake Thackray biography, is a skilled performer, whose repertoire includes not only Jake’s songs, but also classic comic material by the likes of Tom Lehrer, Flanders and Swann, Victoria Wood and Tim Minchin, as well as a little of his own writing. He has performed all over the country, including at Cropredy and Latitude Festival, and has been heard on the radio, including 6 Music and Radio 4.
Beware of the Bull – A Celebration of Jake Thackray
“A brilliant show! Paul really brought the great man to life with spot-on renditions of some of Jake’s most loved songs and fascinating insights into his life story. Sold out with very positive audience feedback.” – Keith Halsall, Lymm Festival
From Here to Absurdity: An Evening of Comic Songs, Winster
“A resounding success. The selection of songs included both favourites and hidden gems. The singing and guitar work were first class … the witty and informative links and background information blended everything into a coherent and enjoyable whole.” – Geoff Lester, promoter
