The Sculpture Gallery: Fidelma Massey
We are excited to announce Fidelma Massey as our Guest Artist for September. Please come to explore these impressive works, on show until Monday 28th September.
Fidelma has been a sculptor for 40 years or more, working mainly in bronze, but she also makes ceramics, drawings and prints. Her work ranges from very large public commissions in bronze and steel to very tiny ceramics. She was born in Dublin, but has lived in Lancashire for the last 16 years.
This widely exhibited sculptor enjoys exploring spirituality, the natural world, and women. Her forms are imaginative and often witty, always engaging the emotions. She makes detailed, precise, graceful sculptures, using traditional techniques — clay and wax modelling, casting, mould-making (bronze) and hand building (ceramics). This compelling artist likes to invent hybrids, such as a man who is also a bird or a woman who is a tree.
