The Sculpture Gallery Presents David Cruickshank Exhibition
We welcome you to come and view our latest monthly Guest Artist Exhibition, which launches on Sunday, 3rd May and runs throughout May to Monday, 1st June.
David Cruickshank is a Jamaican born, British artist who creates biomorphic forms in wood. From chainsaw to chisel, he has spent a lifetime revealing the invisible and hidden woodland spirits into tangible works of art within his carvings.
David’s practice is rooted in discovering and revealing hidden structures and abstract forms that emerge through the organic qualities of wood and his own interpretive process. Having always been drawn to the natural forms that exist within the grain itself, he has a deep respect for wood as a living material, shaped by time, growth, and environment; in fact, he used to be a tree surgeon. Whether working with knives, chisels, chainsaws, or power tools, he feels compelled by the meditative nature of shaping wood and the transformative potential of the material.
Recent years have brought him back to his Jamaican roots and to a renewed engagement with memory and heritage, standing as an exploration of identity and belonging.
