The Voice UK’s Rachel Modest sings Gospel
In December we are excited to welcome back our Christmas Gospel Music Special, back by popular demand, and we are privileged to host The Voice UK’s Rachel Modest.
If you like those well-known Christmas Carols and popular hits songs of the season, mixed with your favourite gospel/soul songs, Rachel will provide you with amazing concert full of the best entertainment.
Experience the soulful gospel vocals that will thrill and delight audiences of all ages. With many years of experience Rachel Modest covers a wide range of artists and genres, she will provide something special and unique.
Rachel Modest is a singer, songwriter, musical director and performer. She was brought up singing Gospel Music and playing piano. Rachel also is the director/founder of the Wakefield Community Gospel Choir and has dozens of writing credits also having released a number of singles and albums.
Recently Rachel gained recognition and popularity by reaching the semi-final of The Voice UK on ITV, earning a standing ovation on the TV talent show.
Judge Olly Murs said: “The biggest compliment I can give you is to say that is one of the best performances I have ever seen on this show.”
Rachel earned an ‘all four turn’ from the judges as they all clamoured to be her mentor. She choose to be part of Sir Tom Jones’ team, who declared: “You are the real deal. What a voice! You sing right from the heart. I love it.”
After her last tv performance, Sir Tom described her as a “tremendous singer”, saying: “I get emotional just listening to you.”
“Tom is a lovely man and so down to earth….” recalls Rachel. “You wouldn’t believe he was a worldwide superstar if you talked to him. He taught me so much about how nerves are purely psychological, how nerves can have a physical effect on your voice, how they make you sing a certain way and how you have to learn the techniques behind being able to bypass them.”
“My music is very much rooted in soul music. I love listening to Stevie Wonder, he is a god. I was trained classically as a pianist as a child all the way up to early 20s and I’m hoping my love of classical will come through in my music.”
Rachel has developed a powerful and soulful vocal style that takes inspiration from artists such as Madeleine Bell, Dee Dee Warwick and Dusty Springfield and has an honesty and integrity that is missing in many.
Despite her nationwide television achievement Rachel’s personal music highlight was singing at the Global Teacher Prize in Paris, where she was introduced on stage by her hero Nile Rodgers.
