Anda Union

3rd February 2026

Anda Union marks two decades of bringing the vast soundscape of the Mongolian steppe to contemporary audiences. Trained in the deep traditions of Mongolian music, the ensemble fuses throat‑singing, long‑song vocal techniques and the resonant tones of the morin khuur (horse‑head fiddle) with two‑stringed lutes and soaring string arrangements. Their performances evoke the open grasslands, delivering otherworldly harmonies and wind‑swept melodies that feel both ancient and cinematic.

Over twenty years the group has become a leading voice in the revivalist wave reshaping East Asian folk music. By weaving together regional styles from across the Mongolian plateau, they create a sound that is simultaneously rooted in centuries‑old rituals and strikingly modern. This blend of powerful, soulful expression and unmistakable cultural identity has made Anda Union a favourite on international festival stages and a compelling live act.

This Howard Assembly Room concert offers audiences an immersive journey into Mongolia’s musical heritage, showcasing the raw beauty of throat‑singing, the haunting resonance of the morin khuur, and the dynamic energy of a band that continues to breathe new life into the grasslands’ timeless songs.
