The Outcasts (15)
In 19th‑century Ireland, amid an isolated rural community where poverty and superstition are rife, Maura, an introverted farm girl is suspected of witchcraft. But she soon discovers the mystical aspects of the countryside as her true nature is revealed to her, after meeting a mysterious and enigmatic wanderer, Scarf Michael.
We’re very excited to present this extremely rare chance to screen this unforgettable work on the big screen. The Outcasts is the great lost classic of Irish cinema, though virtually impossible to see since its release. This new 2K restoration, sourced from the director himself – also the writer of The Blood on Satan’s Claw – combines earthy realism, rural tragedy and dreamlike folklore in a visually stunning directorial debut.
To celebrate the finale of the season there will be a special introduction before the The Outcasts by our season artwork collaborators Bunty & George from Hwæt! who also selected the film.
The film will also be proceeded by short film Oldboys Apples (Brad Hock, 2020, 8mins) “Beyond the hedge, beneath the well there is a place where spirits dwell.”.
