Based on the Littlehampton libels of the 1920s, it follows an investigation into the anonymous author of numerous crudely insulting letters sent to the residents of the seaside town, including conservative local, Edith (Olivia Colman). Single mother Rose, from Ireland (Jessie Buckley), is charged with the crime. Suspecting that something is amiss, the town’s women investigate.
