Hope Against Tyranny: 1984
Part of Meaning In The Void
Hope Against Tyranny: 1984
Adapted and directed by Sophie Clement
From the team behind this year’s award-winning adaptation of Orwell’s 1984 comes a standalone excerpt, staged beneath the stars: Winston Smith, alone with Goldstein’s forbidden book, finds…for one fragile moment… the outline of an idea worth resisting for.
A tense, intimate piece of political theatre that trades the novel’s vast surveillance state for a single act of private hope, and asks how long that hope can survive contact with the world outside the page.
Contains themes of totalitarian control, surveillance, and psychological distress.
When: 8 & 10 September only
Where: The Planetarium, Millennium Square, Leeds
Price: £2
