Resurrection (15)
Spanning a century, Resurrection is divided into six chapters, each taking place in a specific cinematic era and genre.
The story itself is set in a world where humanity has lost the ability to dream, but one creature remains entranced by the fading illusions of the dreamworld. This monster, adrift in reverie, clings to visions no one else can see, until a woman appears. Gifted with the rare power to perceive these illusions for what they truly are, she chooses to enter the monster’s dreams, determined to uncover the truth that lies hidden within.
Releasing only three features since his debut Tiger (2011), including the brilliant Long Day’s Journey into Night (2018), Bi Gan has steadily grown in reputation for his singular, impeccably creative and stylish films and Resurrection is a expansive and spectacular ode to the human condition, to Chinese history and culture and to cinema.
