National Theatre Live: The Playboy of the Western World
Nicola Coughlan (Bridgerton) stars alongside Éanna Hardwicke (The Sixth Commandment) and Siobhán McSweeney (Derry Girls) in John Millington Synge’s The Playboy of the Western World, directed by Caitríona McLaughlin.
Set in a rural Irish pub, Pegeen Flaherty’s settled life is disrupted when a young stranger arrives claiming he has killed his father. Instead of condemnation, he is celebrated – until another visitor unsettles the story and exposes uncomfortable truths.
Filmed live at the National Theatre, this darkly funny production explores youth, identity and the hidden dynamics of a close-knit community.
