Life Drawing in May
Join our life drawing classes in Leeds and develop your skills in a calm, focused studio environment at Northlight Arts Centre.
Held in our bright gallery space in Chapel Allerton (LS7), these sessions are designed for all levels — whether you’re completely new to life drawing or returning to it after time away. Most people who attend are beginners, so you’ll be in good company.
Working from professional life models, you’ll explore a range of short and longer poses, giving you time to build confidence, improve observation, and develop your understanding of the human form. All materials are provided, including paper, charcoal, graphite, easels and A1 drawing boards — just turn up and draw.
The sessions are structured but relaxed. You can work at your own pace, with optional guidance available throughout from artist and tutor Boris Cruse. Rather than over-directing, Boris supports your development by demonstrating techniques separately and helping you see more clearly what’s in front of you.
Life drawing is one of the most effective ways to improve your drawing. It helps you slow down, look closely, and build a stronger sense of proportion, structure and line. Many people also find it a deeply absorbing and rewarding way to spend time — focused, creative, and free from distractions.
There is a short break during each session, giving you time to step back, reflect, and chat with others. The atmosphere is welcoming and supportive, with a mix of people attending for different reasons — from building a regular creative practice to simply trying something new.
Classes run as a four-week course on Tuesday evenings, 6–8pm.
