The Red Shed Players Presents: Radical Roots
In “Radical Roots” The Red Shed Players explore the lives of four strong characters who played important roles in our history:
Robert Owen – Industrialist and Dreamer
Feargus O’Connor – The Lion of Freedom
Alice Mann – Printer and Activist for the Charter
Emma Martin – Preacher of Absolute Equality
Their stories are told in their own words and through songs from the Chartist hymnbook and poetry of the time arranged & performed by Dave Hanvey. The Secret Library | Leeds Libraries Heritage Blog was an important source for our portrayal of Alice Mann (1791-1865), a key figure from Leeds’ rich history of 19th-century radical printing and so we are especially pleased to be able to present our representation of her life.
Leeds Libraries are proud to host Radical Roots as part of our Leeds 400 programme.
